How to Style a Console Table

Getting a new piece of furniture is like waking up on a Monday, and realizing you don’t have to go to work. A dream.

That’s dramatic, but I truly do love finding new pieces to make our house a home. I found this little, rattan console table at Wal-Mart, of all places, and knew she needed to have a permanent spot in the breakfast nook. So, add to cart, I did. I was very pleased with the quality, and measured correctly for once, so I moved her in, and never looked back.

Now, our breakfast nook is very light, and airy and I wanted that to be reflected in the decor. It is still a work in progress, but I’m impatient, and decided to share the process that no one asked for. So, when styling, I try to have a theme – I use that term loosely, as I have no clue what I would title this theme. But, in my mind, there is always a theme. I love having real plants, even though they don’t love me back. I felt that the green would compliment this piece, so I decided to run with it. Also, if you know me, you know I rarely have a piece of furniture that does not have some sort of book stack on it. It’s my addiction, and I’m okay with it. Then, I try to find random things I already own that fit my vision. When that fails, I look to the internet, and google my ass off, until I find what I’m searching for. Once I have all the items, I essentially put them in a pile, and start placing them on the desired piece, until I’m either hungry, tired, or pleased. I’ve been told that odd numbers are better, which I sometimes follow, and sometimes don’t. I also like to have things of varying heights, and shapes, if possible. I like to layer the lighting, and man alive, do I love a lamp. Mostly, I just want to look at it, and enjoy what I’m looking at. Which is what I like most about home décor. Because no matter the set-up, if you like it, who cares.

Stay tuned for the final product!
